Consumers shopping for a vinyl fence contractor often assume that all fence contractors are basically selling the same product. If your search is based on this assumption, there is only one thing to do: look for the lowest price.
We absolutely encourage you to look for the best values in fencing, but would like to point out how shopping on price alone can lead to a poor quality installation of even poorer quality fencing materials.
Vinyl fencing got its start a few years ago as a low-cost, low-maintenance alternative to wood and masonry fences. The original vinyl fences looked great for a few years, but over time experienced problems with fading, graying, sagging and warping. Our extreme weather here in Utah can be particularly harsh on vinyl.

The panels on this vinyl fence have become warped and are bowing out probably due to exposure to extreme heat and cold.
So tremendous improvements were made to the quality of the next generation of vinyl. The better quality vinyl is a little more expensive, but preserves its color, strength and beauty for much longer.
The only problem is that there continues to be a demand for the cheaper stuff from unscrupulous contractors and home centers who either know it will look good just long enough to run out the clock on any warranty period, or have no intention of honoring the warranty.

This fence’s posts were not well-set, but probably didn’t begin to lean until a few months later. A poor quality installation is often not evident right away.
The quality of the installation of your fence can also make a world of difference. A high-quality installation, where posts are firmly set and straight, care is taken to account for the contour of your yard, panels and pickets are even and gates are well-aligned and smooth functioning takes extra care and experience. The defects of an installation sometimes won’t show up, or fail to be noticed for days and weeks after you’re already paid the contractor.

This gate was installed without steel reinforced gate posts. Eventually the weight of the gate pulled the posts down causing the gate to become misaligned.
